The Gastro 360 Philosophy

Our Gastro 360 Philosophy manages IBS by addressing all potential causes with a strong emphasis on nutrition and lifestyle

Our program consists of three parts:

  1. Medical Evaluation – A thorough assessment to identify underlying conditions, medication effects, and warning signs that may contribute to IBS symptoms.

  2. Functional Medicine – Targeted testing to uncover gut imbalances, food sensitivities, microbiome changes, and other root causes of chronic digestive issues.

  3. Nutritional Support – Personalized diet and lifestyle strategies to manage triggers, improve gut function, and promote long-term relief from IBS symptoms.

Clinical Pathway

This guide walks you through our step-by-step, evidence-based approach to diagnosing and managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Whether you’re experiencing bloating, discomfort, or unpredictable digestion, we’re here to identify root causes and build a care plan that helps you feel your best.

1. Initial Assessment

2. Functional Medicine Testing

3. Nutrition/ Lifestyle Guidance

Each patient undergoes a thorough medical evaluation including a review of medications, family history, diet, and lifestyle. A wide range of tests may be recommended including lab work, stool studies, imaging/x-ray, and endoscopy. Patients will continue to meet with the medical and nutrition staff until symptoms are well controlled. A long-term plan for nutrition, diet, and lifestyle is provided by the care team.

Our team offers both traditional bloodwork and advanced functional testing to provide a complete picture of your digestive health. Testing options include:

  • Food Sensitivity Panels: Functional blood tests that assess how your immune system responds to a broad range of foods.
  • Stool Analysis: Looks at gut flora balance, digestion markers, bacterial overgrowth, and inflammation levels.
  • Nutrient Testing: Checks for deficiencies in key vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential nutrients that can affect gut function.
  • Hormonal Testing: Measures adrenal, thyroid, and sex hormones that may influence energy, metabolism, sleep, and digestion.

This comprehensive approach allows us to detect imbalances that standard testing might miss—giving you clearer answers and a more tailored care plan.

Sometimes we need a closer look at your digestive tract. Endoscopic procedures like upper endoscopy or colonoscopy can help us check for inflammation, ulcers, or other issues that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Upper Endoscopy: May be recommended if you experience symptoms such as unexplained nausea, vomiting, heartburn, or upper abdominal pain.

Colonoscopy: Recommended for anyone over age 45 for colon cancer screening. It may also be used if you have symptoms like rectal bleeding, unexplained weight loss, or persistent changes in bowel habits.

How to Prepare

Imaging studies like CT scans or MRIs allow us to evaluate your digestive organs in more detail. These tools can help us spot structural problems such as inflammation, intestinal blockages, or abnormalities in your liver, pancreas, or other organs.

When might you need imaging? If you have unexplained abdominal pain, significant bloating, unintended weight loss, or symptoms that don’t improve with initial treatment, imaging studies may be recommended.

Your treatment plan is personalized and may include one or more of the following options:

  • Food Elimination Plans: We help identify and remove potential trigger foods that may be causing your IBS symptoms.
  • Probiotic Therapy: Supports the balance of healthy bacteria in your gut to improve digestion and reduce symptoms.
  • Antibiotic Treatment: If harmful bacteria or overgrowth is detected, a short course of antibiotics may be prescribed.
  • Motility Medications: Helpful for those with constipation or slowed digestion to get the gut moving more regularly.
  • Anti-inflammatory Medications: In cases where inflammation is found in the digestive tract, we may use gentle medications to calm the gut lining.
  • Enzyme Replacement Therapy: If your body has trouble digesting certain foods, enzyme supplements can help support proper absorption.
  • Hormone Balancing: Addressing hormone imbalances can lead to improvements in energy, metabolism, and digestive function.
  • Supplement Support: Targeted nutrient replacement based on lab results—for example, replenishing low iron, B12, or vitamin D levels.
  • Ongoing Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching: You’ll continue to work closely with our team to ensure your plan is sustainable and symptoms remain under control.

We believe in long-term partnerships and are here to adjust your treatment as needed so you continue to feel your best.
